Defrag Only

As the description hints, this is a quick and dirty method of defragmentation. It neither optimizes file placement nor seeks to consolidate free space, but simply defragments any fragmented files it finds as quickly as possible. This method will probably increase the number of free space fragments on a drive, but is not particularly thorough or optimal. It is the fastest form of entire drive defragmentation; use it primarily as a convenience between regularly scheduled SMARTPlacement defragmentation jobs.

Defrag Only algorithm defragments files if there is available consolidated free space to hold the file. If there is not enough consolidated free space to place a file, the file is skipped.

Defrag Only:

§        defragments only fragmented files without attempting to place files according to usage patterns or attempting to consolidate free space.

§        provides the fastest defragmentation pass but is not the most thorough.

§        should only be used if you have lots of free space. Since no attempt is made to clear free space to place files, any file which cannot be fit in to an existing free space hole is skipped.
